Spring Migration

In southern Alberta irrigation reservoirs and many wetlands maintained with water from irrigation infrastructure serve as critical stop-over locations for birds migrating north in the spring and south in the fall seasons.  However, many birds also settle in these landscape features for the season to breed and raise their young before returning south in the fall.

In southern Alberta, conservation sites, many of them with wetlands, are maintained by both Ducks Unlimited and Alberta Conservation Association.  Many of these sites allow public access for activities such as birding.  Visit http://maps.ducks.ca/ducknavigator/ or http://www.albertadiscoverguide.com/ for more information on accessing these sites.
