Sugar

The southern Alberta town of Taber is the centre of sugar beet production in Canada. The rich, deep soils, warm summer days and availability of regular irrigation watering allows for successful growth of this crop. Alberta irrigated and grown sugar beets support the Lantic owned sugar processing facility in Taber.  This is the only facility in Canada using Canadian grown products to produce sugar.

In 2022 29,492 acres of sugar beets were grown under irrigation in Alberta.

More information on Alberta sugar beets can be found on the Alberta Sugar Beet Growers website.
