Thanks to irrigation crops grown by many farmers in southern Alberta are protected from drought and low rainfall. Crops that don't get enough rain don't grow as well and that affects the amount of money a farmer receives for the crop. With irrigation, farmers can apply water on their crops to make up for a lack of natural precipitation.
