Alberta's irrigation districts support a large livestock industry including beef cattle, dairy cattle, pork, sheep and lambs, poulty and egg production.

48% of the provincial number of beef cattle in feeding operations are associated with the southern irrigated region. The water delivered through irrigation conveyance infrastructure provides good quality water for livestock to drink.  High quality irrigated grain, forage and silage crops to feed livestock are grown consistently year after year under irrigation.
